MIDDLESEX COLLEGE ANNOUNCES ROGER NEPTON AS NEW HEAD SOFTBALL COACH
Middlesex College Director of Athletics Rocco Constantino has announced that Roger Nepton has been hired as the college's new Head Softball Coach.
Nepton takes over for Matt Mehalick, who led the Colts to a 27-10 record last season.
An alumni of Middlesex College and former member of the Colts baseball team, Nepton has been an assistant coach at Middlesex High School for the last two seasons and has worked extensively as a private instructor and with multiple travel organizations.
"I am very excited to be the head coach of Middlesex College Softball program," said Nepton. "Being an alum and former Colt Baseball player, it is an honor to be coaching at my alma mater."
Constantino expressed confidence that Nepton can maintain the high standard of excellence set by the program in recent years.
"We have been one of the top softball programs in the Region and have gotten a lot of national attention recently, but this is our third coaching change in three seasons and that is always tough," said Constantino. "We had many good candidates for the position and we felt like Coach Nepton had many strong points and expressed a great long-term vision for the program. We are proud of the success the softball team has had and are confident that Coach Nepton will bring stability among many other positives to the program."
Nepton is quite familiar with the success the program has seen in recent years as his daughter Kaylin Nepton was a star player for the Colts from 2022-2024. Nepton was an NJCAA First Team All-American in 2024, the first Colts softball player to receive that accolade since 1998.
The connection between the successes his daughter experienced was not lost on the newly-hired Nepton.
"Having my daughter represent the Colts on the softball field and seeing the success of the program, I hope to continue the Colts winning ways,' said the first-year head coach.
Middlesex College Softball has accumulated an 88-43 record over the past four seasons and won a bid to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament as the Region 19 Champion in 2022.
