MIDDLESEX MENS SOCCER RANKED 10TH IN NATION IN LATEST NJCAA POLL

Middlesex College Men's Soccer has been voted as one of the top 10 NJCAA Division III programs in the country in the most recent poll released by the NJCAA.

The Colts received the ranking after knocking off Camden County College, the nation's #4 team at the time, on September 27.

Middlesex is currently 6-1-1 with their only loss being a one-goal defeat at the hands of Northampton, the nation's #7 team.

Led by second-year Head Coach Javier Velasco and Assistant Coaches Rich Catena and Paul Liddy, the Colts have won two road games against teams that were ranked in the National Top 10 at the time. Aside from beating Camden CC, Middlesex also beat Ocean County College, who was ranked #6, 4-2.

The Colts have been led on offense by Jamie Madrid, a sophomore from Perth Amboy. Madrid has nine goals in eight games played this season. Only six Division III players in the country have scored more goals than Madrid.

Madrid is tied for the team lead in assists with Juan Minota Vega (Freshman/Carteret, NJ). The pair have four assists each.

The Colts have excelled on defense as well and have been led by goalkeepers Jayson Vassallo (Sophomore/South River, NJ) and Jeremy Madrid (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ). Vassallo has started seven games and has a goals against average of 1.35 while Madrid has appeared in goal in four games and has a stellar goals against average of 0.51.

Middlesex has seven regular season games remaining this season as they make a push to qualify for the NJCAA Region XIX Postseason. They are scheduled to return to the pitch on Tuesday when they travel to Montgomery County College in Pennsylvania. Game time is set for 4:00PM.
