Colts earns split against 9th ranked Brookdale

EDISON, NJ (April 24, 2021) – Timely hitting and key pitching help Middlesex earn a split against the Jersey Blues.

Game 1 (9-8 Win) – In a game which featured 4 lead changes, Middlesex was able to hold off #9 Brookdale by a final score of 9-8. Jack Calabrese (Edison, NJ/Edison) earned the victory on the mound by tossing 4 strong innings of relief and only allowing 1 run on 5 hits. Calabrese escaped a bases loaded jam with a strikeout looking in the 5th and induced a 6-4-3 inning ending double play in the 6th before closing out the final inning for the win. The offense for the Colts erased both a 2-0 and 7-5 deficit. Tyler Sharfetz (Fords, NJ/John F. Kennedy) had a big day with 2 hits and 4rbi. Christian Petrillo (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) had 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 2rbi. Both David Razzano (East Brunswick, NJ/St. Joseph's) and Bryan Fernandez (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) had 2 hits on the day and a double.

Game 2 (2-0 Loss) – Isaiah Figueroa (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) came up on the short end of the pitcher's duel in game 2. Figueroa tossed a complete game only allowing 4 hits, no earned runs and struck out 5. Isaiah had retired the side in order in two innings on less than 10 pitches. He used only 4 pitches in the 7th inning to keep Brookdale's offense in check. Unfortunately, the Colts could not put together a rally to give Isaiah any run support. Their lone chance was in the bottom of the 1st with the bases loaded and 1 away. Sharfetz once again led the offense with 2 of the 7 hits in the game.
