John Oranchak set the tone with a first-pitch home run and Jakob Anderson and Sal Della Fave combined for a fantastic performance on the mound as Middlesex College beat RCSJ-Gloucester, the nation's #1 ranked NJCAA Division III team, 6-2.
The Roadrunners had defeated the Colts 8-4 in Game 1.
Middlesex moved to 3-1 on the season and the loss was the first of the season for RCSJ-Gloucester, who is 7-1 on the year.
In Game 1, Middlesex held a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Roadrunners took advantage of some defensive mistakes by the Colts to put up five runs in the frame.
Matthew Troche (Sophomore/Fords, NJ) went 2-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs. Roberto Gonzalez went 1-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run.
In Game 2, Middlesex once again jumped out to an early lead when Oroncak blasted the first pitch of the game over the fence for a quick 1-0 lead.
RCSJ-Gloucester tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, but that tie was short-lived as the Colts erupted for five runs in the top of the sixth. The Roadrunners answered with one run in the bottom of the inning, but did not pose a threat the rest of the way.
Dylan Lugo (Freshman/East Brunswick, NJ) had two RBIs for Middlesex and Brett Lukachyk (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) went 1-2 with two walks and a run scored.
Anderson went the first five innings and was fantastic in a no-decision. He allowed just three singles and one earned run while striking out four. Della Fave picked up the win in relief. He pitched two innings and struck out three while allowing just one earned runs.
Middlesex tries to complete the series victory when they take on the Roadrunners at home on Monday. First pitch is set for 2:00PM.
