
MIDDLESEX TOPS BRONX CC 17-5 FOR 5TH STRAIGHT WIN
Matthew Troche went 4-5 with two doubles, four runs scored and four RBIs to back the pitching of Michael Canavesio and two relievers as Middlesex College Baseball topped Bronx CC 17-5.
The won was the fifth in a row for the Colts and raised their record to 19-12 on the season. Bronx CC fell to 4-11 with the loss.
Middlesex scored runs in each of their six turns at bat, starting with two runs in each of the first three innings. The Colts scored four in the bottom of the fourth to break the game open and six more in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding lead. Bronx CC scored all five of their runs over the final three innings.
In addition to Troche, Michael Wansaw (Sophomore/Elizabeth, NJ) and Conor Drury (Freshman/North Brunswick, NJ) each went 2-4 with an RBI. Wansaw scored a game-high three runs and Alex Turner (Freshman/Clinton, NJ) went 1-2 with three RBIs.
Canavesio went the first five innings to pick up the win. He allowed five hits while walking just one and striking out eight.
Kyle Minall (Freshman/Scotch Plains, NJ) and Pablo Baloco (Sophomore/Linden, NJ) each pitched an inning to close out the game.
Middlesex returns to action Friday when they begin a big three-game series against Brookdale CC, currently the #4 ranked team in the country. Friday's game is scheduled for a nine-inning game at Brookdale with first pitch scheduled for 2:30. They will then play a doubleheader on Saturday at Middlesex starting at 12:00PM.
