MIDDLESEX COLLEGE BASEBALL SWEEPS TWO WEEKEND DOUBLEHEADERS, MOVES TO 27-16

Middlesex College Baseball has shown perseverance all season and despite battling injuries, the Colts are going into the stretch run on a hot streak after sweeping two double headers over the weekend.

Middlesex is now 27-16 on the season.

The Colts topped Bergen CC in a home twinbill on Saturday and then turned right around and took two close games from Penn State-Schuykill to move to 27-16 on the season.

Middlesex had the bats working overtime against Bergen, scoring 22 runs in two games against the Bulldogs.

In Game 1, Middlesex jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but after a late-game rally by Bergen, had to hang on for an 8-6 win.

Michael Wansaw (Sophomore/Elizabeth, NJ) was a force on the mound and at the plate for the Colts. At bat, he went 2-3 with three RBIs, two stolen bases and a run scored. He also pitched six innings of two-hit ball with ten strikeouts to pick up the win.

Joshua Horowitz (Freshman/Red Bank, NJ) worked around two hits in the seventh to pick up the save.

Middlesex leadoff hitter Dylan Lugo (Freshman/East Brunswick, NJ) went 2-3 with a double, two runs, a stolen base and an RBI to spark the offense.

The Colts jumped out to a big lead again in Game 2, before hanging on for a four-run win. Middlesex led 9-0 after two innings and 12-5 going into the sixth, but Bergen mounted a comeback to make the game 12-10 going to the bottom of the sixth.

Middlesex scored two important insurance runs in the bottom of the inning, setting up Horowitz to come in once again to close the door.

Wansaw and Lugo led the way for the Colts offense once again. Wansaw went 3-4 with two runs, three RBIs and four stolen bases while Lugo went 2-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a double.

Roberto Gonzalez (Sophomore/South Plainfield, NJ) belted a clutch three-run home run and Natanael Friedman (Sophomore/Clifton, NJ) went 2-3 with two runs, one RBI and two stolen bases.

Jakob Anderson (Freshman/Middlesex, NJ) picked up the win to move to 6-1 on the season for the Colts.

Middlesex carried that momentum into the next day when it came out on top in both ends of a doubleheader in close games against PSU-Schuykill.

PSU carried a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the fourth in Game 1, but the Colts put three runs on the board to take a 6-4 lead on the way to a 7-4 win.

Wansaw once again carried the offense, going 2-3 with a double, a run, a stolen base and two RBIs. It was the tenth straight game that Wansaw hit safely in with nine of those being multi-hit games.

Paul DiPasquale (Freshman/Edison, NJ) pitched a complete game to pick up his second win of the season. The righty scattered seven hits over seven innings, limiting PSU to four runs.

In Game 2, Middlesex capped the busy weekend in style with some high drama from Conor Drury (Freshman/North Brunswick, NJ), who delivered a walkoff single to give the Colts a 5-4 win.

Middlesex had fallen behind 3-0 early to PSU and the game went to the seventh with the Colts trailing 4-3.

After Middlesex tied the game, Drury delivered a one-out single to left to plate John Oranchak (Freshman/East Brunswick, NJ) with the winning run.

Lugo had another big game at the plate for Middlesex, going 2-4 with a run, RBI and stolen base. Lugo has had multi-hit games in five of the last seven contests for Middlesex.

Middlesex returns to action Monday with a pivotal game with playoff implications at Ocean CC. First pitch of the single nine-inning game is scheduled for 3:30PM.
