MIDDLESEX COLLEGE BASEBALL SWEEPS DH AGAINST CAMDEN, REACHES 30 WINS FOR 3RD STRAIGHT SEASON
Middlesex College Baseball has been enjoying a tremendous run the past three seasons and with a doubleheader sweep over Camden CC, the Colts made program history once again.
The wins boosted the Colts record to 30-18, making it the third straight season that team has reached the 30-win mark. It is the first time in program history the team has won at least 30 games three straight seasons.
In Game 1 against Camden, the story once again was Michael Wansaw. The sophomore lefty from Elizabeth, NJ pitched all seven innings, twirling a two-hit shutout to top the Cougars 3-0. The win moved Wansaw's record to 5-1 on the season.
Wansaw also had a hand in all three runs scored by the Colts in the game. He went 1-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.
Roberto Gonzalez (Sophomore, South Plainfield, NJ) and Conor Drury (Freshman/North Brunswick, NJ) had the only two other hits and RBIs for the Colts, who were held to three hits in the game.
Game 2 was a bit more dramatic as Middlesex pulled off their fourth walkoff win of the season.
Camden jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and Middlesex answered with a run of their own in the second. The Cougars took a 2-1 lead in the fourth and the score remained that way until the Colts rallied for two in the seventh to win it.
Middlesex tied to the game when Drury singled home Dylan Lugo (Freshman/East Bruinswick, NJ) and then won the game when Natanael Friedman (Sophomore/Clifton, NJ) drew a bases loaded walk.
Jakob Anderson (Freshman/Middlesex, NJ) was fantastic on the mound in a complete game effort. The righty scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run while striking out seven.
Drury, Wansaw and Lugo each had two hits in the win.
The win gave the Colts their 30th win of the season, which comes on the heels of 37 and 36-win seasons in 2022 and 2023, respectively. The Colts have now won 103 games over the past three seasons, which is the best three-year runs in program history.
Middlesex has a single game scheduled for Tuesday at Raritan Valley and then takes on Union in the final regular season series of the year beginning Friday. Middlesex has already qualified for the Region 19 playoffs and has the inside track for a four-seed in the tournament, although there are multiple teams who mathematically can also grab the #4 seed.
The Colts will find their playoff fate a week from today.
