DRURY WALKOFF KEYS #8 MIDDLESEX IN SWEEP OF MONROE-BRONX

Middlesex College used a five-run rally for a thrilling come-from-behind win in Game 1 and then an offensive explosion in Game 2 to sweep visiting Monroe College of the Bronx in a home doubleheader.

The wins boosted the Colts record to 15-5 and they are currently the #8 ranked team in the latest NJCAA D3 National Poll.

In Game 1 against Monroe, Middlesex was down 5-2 heading to the seventh inning. The Express added an insurance run in the top of the inning and things looked bleak for the Colts going to the bottom of the seventh.

However, Middlesex rallied for five runs while giving away just one out to secure the thrilling victory.

Conor Drury (Sophomore/North Brunswick, NJ) delivered a single to right with the bases loaded in the seventh for the game-winning hit.

Jhoalvin Ledesma (Freshman/Carteret, NJ) went 2-3 with a triple, two runs, two RBIs and three stolen bases to lead the offensive charge for the Colts. Joshua Rodriguez (Sophomore/North Brunswick, NJ) went 2-4 with a double as well.

John Ryan (Freshman/East Brunswick, NJ) pitched the first 6.2 innings and allowed five earned runs. Edgar DeLeon (Freshman/Perth Amboy, NJ) came on to record the final out in the seventh and was the beneficiary of the Colts rally in the bottom of the seventh. The righty struck out the only batter he faced and picked up his first collegiate win.

In Game 2, Middlesex left little to doubt as they accumulated a 12-3 lead through three innings. Monroe rallied for four runs in the fourth to make it a game, but the Colts pitching locked down from there.

Middlesex added four runs in the bottom of the sixth to nail down the win.

Ryan Acquisto (Freshman/Point Pleasant Boro, NJ) led the offense going 2-2 with two runs, two walks, a double and five RBIs. Drury continued his hot hitting as well, going 3-3 with two walks, a run and an RBI.

Rodriguez and Ledesma had two hits each and Ledesma paced the Colts with four runs scored.

Maurice Hedderman (Freshman/South Amboy, NJ) started for Middlesex and was relieved by Joshua Horowitz (Sophomore/Red Bank, NJ) in the fourth. Horowitz pitched 2/3 of an inning and picked up the win. Joshua Friedman (Freshman/Bogota, NJ) pitched the final three innings and did not allow a run to pick up the save.

Middlesex returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Delaware County CC for a 3:00PM first pitch.
