Middlesex College Baseball, ranked #11 in the latest NJCAA D3 National Poll, took two out of three from Union College, topping the 20-win mark for the fourth straight season.
The Colts took games one and two by scores of 16-3 and 7-1, respectively. Union bounced back to surprise Middlesex with two runs in the last inning to take game three, 6-5.
Game 1 of the series was tied 3-3 going into the fourth inning before Middlesex broke out for eight runs over the next two innings to take a commanding 11-3 lead. The Colts added five more runs in the eighth to nail down the decisive win.
The Colts were led by Ryan Acquisto (Freshman/Point Pleasant Boro, NJ) who went 4-4 with four RBIs, a double and a run scored. Angel Deaza went 2-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Antonio Friedman (Freshman/Trenton, NJ) went 2-6 with three RBIs as well.
John Ryan (Freshman/East Brunswick, NJ) started and went seven innings to pick up the win. He allowed just three hits and two earned runs while striking out eight.
In Game 2, Middlesex scored in the bottom of the first and then broke the game open with a four-run third. The Colts added single runs in the fifth and sixth and were never really threatened on the way to a 7-1 win.
Drew Lukachyk (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) and Conor Drury (Sophomore/North Brunswick, NJ) led the way offensively for Middlesex with two hits apiece.
Fresh off his gem against #4 Brookdale CC, Ryan Rzepinski was again stellar on the mound for Middlesex. He went five innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out 10. The righty is now 4-0 with a 3.03 ERA on the season. He has struck out 55 batters in 29 innings.
Middlesex returns to action Tuesday when they travel to RCSJ-Gloucester to take on the nation's #1 team. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30PM.
