MIDDLESEX COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS SOPHOMORES IN 76-69 WIN OVER MERCER
Jahmere Glover scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and Nigel Garcia added 12 second half points off the bench as Middlesex College won a key matchup against Mercer County College 76-69.
With the win, the Colts move to 20-7 on the season and set up a key showdown with Raritan Valley. Currently, Raritan Valley, Middlesex and County College of Morris all have three losses as the 2023-24 regular season comes to a close next week.
Mercer (12-11) and Middlesex engaged in a defensive battle in the first half before the offenses for both teams found a rhythm in the first half. Mercer outscored the Colts 31-28 in the first half with Middlesex outscoring Mercer 48-38 in the second half.
Peter Luster (Sophomore/South Amboy, NJ) began the game for Middlesex with back-to-back three pointers in the game's first minutes, but the Vikings locked down defensively and Middlesex made just nine field goals in the first half after that.
The second half was a much different story as Glover and Garcia led the way for Middlesex offensively. Sean Williams (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) also added 12 second half points and Savion Pressley (Sophomore/Woodbridge, NJ) went 4-4 on key free throws down the stretch to bolster the Colts attack.
Prior to the game, Middlesex College honored their sophomores for their dedication to the Colts program as part of their final home regular season game. The sophomores honored were Glover, Pressley, Luster, Garcia, Jakin Edmond (Sophomore/Union, NJ) and Jude Akudinobi (Irvington, NJ).
In addition, Glover was recognized at halftime for scoring his 1,000th career point. He became the first Middlesex College basketball player to top 1,000 points since 2015.
Middlesex College Men's Basketball will find out their postseason fate on February 21, the day after the regular season ends. The men have clinched a spot in the Region 19 tournament and will find out their seeding next week.
