
MIDDLESEX COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL CAPTURES GSAC TITLE, BEGINS POSTSEASON PLAY NEXT WEEK
Middlesex College Men's Basketball enjoyed a fantastic transition into the NJCAA Division II level, finishing the season with a 20-8 record and capturing the Garden State Athletic Conference championship along the way.
The Colts finished just one game away from also winning the Region 19 regular season title and will go into the tournament as the #3 seed next week. Middlesex is slated to take on County College of Morris in the first round. Should they defeat Morris, the team will take on the winner of Raritan Valley CC vs. Mercer CC for the NJCAA Division II Region 19 Tournament title.
The winner of the Region 19 Tournament will then host the District Tournament on the weekend of March 9, with the winner of that advancing to the NJCAA National Tournament in Illinois.
The 2023-2024 Men's Basketball season was highlighted by two long winning streaks and multiple exciting victories against some very good teams.
The Colts started the season by winning their first seven games, including a thrilling 80-76 win over Raritan Valley CC, the Region's #1 seed. Middlesex finished the 2023 portion of their schedule with a 99-81 win over Delaware Tech and then won their first nine games of 2024 to put together a ten-game winning streak.
When Middlesex beat Mercer CC on February 15, it clinched the regular season GSAC title for the Colts. Middlesex finished 6-2 in GSAC play with Raritan Valley and CC Morris each finishing 5-3.
Middlesex featured a deep and balanced roster this season and was led offensively by Savion Pressley (Sophomore/Middlesex, NJ) and Jahmere Glover (Sophomore/Irvington, NJ). Pressley averaged 15.3 points per game to lead the team while Glover was right behind him with 14.6 ppg.
Anthony Williams (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) led the Colts with 9 rebounds per game and Sean Williams (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) paced Middlesex with 4.6 assists per game.
Jakin Edmond (Sophomore/Union, NJ) led Middlesex with 1.7 blocks per game, a total that was second best in Region 19 and placed him in the top 30 nationally.
Nigel Garcia (Sophomore/Maplewood, NJ) averaged 10.5 points per game off the bench as one of the best reserve players in Region 19.
Middlesex will be in action to start postseason play on Tuesday, February 27 when they travel to County College of Morris in the first round of the NJCAA Division II Region Tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00PM.
