WILLIAMS, CONCEPCION WIN BACK-TO-BACK GSAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS

The start of the 2024-25 season could not be going better for the Middlesex College Men's Basketball team.

The Colts are off to an 8-0 start and are ranked #19 in the latest NJCAA Division II National Poll. They have been bolstered by performances from a variety of players and people are taking notice.

For the second straight week, a Middlesex College Colts had garnered the Garden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week Award.

Anthony Williams (Sophomore/Old Bridge, NJ) was named the GSAC Player of the Week for his performance last week, piggybacking on a GSAC Player of the Week Award for Alfeny Javier Concepcion (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ) the week before.

Concepcion's award came after a fantastic performance at the Shannon Williams Invitational in which the Colts won both of their games. In a 95-54 win over LaGuardia CC, Concepcion had 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. The next day, he went for 20 points on 9-10 shooting with nine rebounds in a 68-45 win over Anne Arundel CC.

Concepcion averaged a double-double in his two games and has three double-doubles on the season.

Last week, Williams had his two highest scoring efforts of the season in back-to-back wins against CC Morris and Bucks CC. In a 77-71 win over Morris, Williams scored 20 points on 7-11 shooting. He grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and had three blocks. It was the first time in his career that he reached 20 points in a game.

Williams followed that up with a fine performance in a 101-57 win over Bucks CC. Williams was one of five Colts to score double digits in the game, scoring a team-high 16 points. He also grabbed 11 rebounds to complete the double-double.

Middlesex returns to action on Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Region 19 foe Mercer CC. The Women will tipoff at 5:00PM with the Men's game to follow.
