SOLOMON, FOUAD NAMED TO ALL-REGION XIX MENS SOCCER TEAM
After strong seasons for the Middlsesex College Men's Soccer team, Andrew Solomon was named First Team All Region XIX and Marwan Fouad was named to the Second Team.
"I am very happy for Andrew and Marwan," said Middlesex Head Coach Javier Velasco. "Andrew deserves to be recognized for his leadership, hard work and dedication to Middlesex and Marwan is a very competitive and passionate player. We'll miss them next year."
Solomon, a freshman midfielder from Edison, New Jersey, was a stalwart defensive midfielder for the Colts and was a disciplined leader on the field. The captain was strong defensively and was one of just two midfielders voted onto the First Team.
"Andrew is a gentleman on and off the field, said Head Coach Javier Velasco. "He worked very hard and was disciplined as a defensive midfielder. He also played center back when the team needed him there. It was a pleasure coaching Andrew and we'll miss him next year. I can't wait to see him compete on the next level."
Fouad, a high-energy freshman midfielder, was voted to the Second Team after scoring five goals and registering three assists in 12 games this season. Fouad accounted for game-winning goals in three straight games for the Colts during a season-high four-game winning streak.
"Marwan is a very talented lefty player," said Velasco. He understands and reads the game well. He played as an offensive and defensive midfielder and also played as a left wing and striker. He really sacrificed for the team playing different positions and we can't thank him enough."
Middlesex College Men's Soccer finished their season with an overall record of 6-8-2 and just missed qualifying for the playoffs by one game despite playing a difficult schedule. The Colts faced four teams this season who were ranked in the NJCAA Top 10 National Poll and six of the team's eight losses were by just one goal.
