MIDDLESEX MEN'S VOLLEYBALL SENDS SOPHOMORES OFF WITH FIVE-SET WIN OVER BROOKDALE CC

Middlesex College Men's Volleyball celebrated their nine sophomores prior to their final match of the season and then sent them off in style with a thrilling five-set win over Brookdale CC.

Middlesex won the first set by a score of 29-27 and fell 30-28 in set two. The Colts took a 2-1 lead with an easy 25-14 set victory, but the Jersey Blues knotted the match by topping Middlesex 25-21 in set four. That set up a tiebreaking fifth set which Middlesex won 15-11 to clinch the victory.

The Colts had a number of fantastic performances and were led by Justin Zapata (Freshman/North Brunswick, NJ) who had a season-high 20 kills.

Cristofer Agurto (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ) was also stellar in the match. The libero had 47 digs in the match, nearly doubling his previous season-high of 25.

Kevin Lorenc (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) tied his own school record with 46 assists in the match. Deivy Perez (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ) also had a typical solid game for the Colts. He was second on the team with 15 kills and 23 digs.

The season concluded with Middlesex finishing with a record of 10-8 overall. This is the second season of intercollegiate Men's Volleyball on the NJCAA level and both seasons Middlesex has recorded winning records. Unlike other Region 19 sports where a .500 record is needed for postseason play, Men's Volleyball only takes the top four teams in the standings into the postseason. Middlesex finished one spot away, ending up fifth in Region 19.
