MIDDLESEX COLLEGE TOPS ROCKLAND CC IN NJCAA DIVISION II DEBUT
Freshmen Damani Anderson and Kezia Feaster combined for 35 points in their collegiate debuts as Middlesex College Women's Basketball came out victorious in their first game as an NJCAA Division II school, topping Rockland CC 83-21.
Eleven different Middlesex (1-0) scorers found their way into the books as the Colts moved up from the NJCAA Division III level with a win.
Rockland CC (0-1) kept the game close at the start as the Colts held an 11-7 lead in the closing minutes of the first quarter, but two baskets in the final minute for Middlesex proved to foreshadow what was to come in the remainder of the game.
Anderson and Ashley Knuth (Sophomore/Middlesex, NJ) scored six points each in the second quarter as Middlesex built a 31-13 halftime lead.
Rotating in their entire bench for most of the second half, Middlesex continued to play efficient offense while remaining tough on defense. Seven different Colts scored in the third quarter, led by Anderson, who scored eight in the quarter.
The Colts outscored Rockland 52-8 in the second half on the way to the win.
In addition to Anderson and Feaster's scoring, Courtney Hansen (Sophomore/Carteret, NJ) added 10 points and Knuth had eight points of her own.
Middlesex returns to the court on Friday, November 10 when they travel south to take on the College of Southern Maryland. Game time is set for a 5:00PM tip.
