
MIDDLESEX COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MOVES TO 5-2 WITH 91-51 WIN OVER ESSEX CC
Middlesex College used a 32-point second quarter to break away from Essex CC on their way to a 91-51 over the Wolverines in a Region 19 road matchup. It was the highest scoring quarter of the season thus far for the Colts.
Courtney Hansen (Sophomore/Carteret, NJ) led Middlesex with 23 points in the win.
The game started close with Middlesex (5-2) holding just an 11-10 lead over Essex (0-3) after one. However, the Colts essentially put the game out of reach by halftime with their second quarter eruption. The Colts carried a 42-19 lead into the half.
Middlesex continued to thrive in the second half as all 13 women on the roster saw court time with 11 of them scoring points.
Yasmen Zafar (Freshman/North Plainfield, NJ) and Jalena Santiago (Freshman/Perth Amboy, NJ) each had eight points and were the high scorers among the reserves.
Vanessa Rivas (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ) scored 18 points and continued to be a dominating force inside on defense with five blocks. Ashley Knuth (Sophomore/Middlesex, NJ) paced the Colts with five assists and added 12 points.
The five wins the Colts have tallied this season are second among Region 19 teams regardless of division.
Middlesex is back in action on Thursday when they host Montgomery CC. Tipoff is set for 5:00PM at Middlesex.
