RIVAS, OHNMEISS LEAD MIDDLESEX COLLEGE WOMENS BASKETBALL TO 11TH WIN OF SEASON
Sarah Ohnmeiss picked up a double-double off the bench and Vanessa Rivas scored 25 points as Middlesex College pulled away in the second half, topping Brookdale CC 79-40.
The win closes out the first half of the season for Middlesex, who now stands at 11-5 after the victory.
Brookdale's defense kept them in the game for much of the first half as the Colts held a 29-20 lead at the break, but the Jersey Blues could only hold off Middlesex for so long. The Colts outscored Brookdale CC 50-20 in the second half for a decisive win.
Rivas was the top scoring option for Middlesex as the sophomore center reached 25 points for the third time this season. She added eight rebounds and matched her career high with five steals.
Ohnmeiss had her best game of the season, shooting 63% from the field while also going 2-3 from the line.
Courtney Hansen (Sophomore/Carteret, NJ) led the team with five assists and added eight points. Angelina Peralta-Almonte (Freshman/Plainfield, NJ) had three blocks, six rebounds and four assists to go along with six points in a well-rounded effort.
Middlesex will take time off between semesters and return to the court on January 9 when they take on Orange CC at home. Tipoff is set for 5:00PM.
