MIDDLESEX COLLEGE WOMENS BASKETBALL TOPS BROOKDALE CC 71-46 ON PINK NIGHT

Middlesex College Women's Basketball used a balanced offensive attack and lock-down defense in the second half to beat Brookdale CC 71-46 in their annual Pink Night contest.

Jalena Santiago (Freshman/Perth Amboy, NJ) and Kezia Feaster (Freshman/Elizabeth, NJ) each had 12 points for the Colts, who outscored the Jersey Blues 29-14 in the second half to pull away. Santiago added 12 rebounds for her first career double-double.

Middlesex moved to 13-7 on the season.

Prior to the game, Middlesex held a ceremony honoring Dawn Spinola, who is in her 11th year working at the college and is five-year Stage 3 breast cancer survivor. Spinola, an Edison, NJ native, worked for ten years as a police dispatcher at the college before moving over to the Advising Department last year. Along with College President Dr. Mark McCormick and mascot Bolt the Colt, Spinola participated in the honorary tipoff prior to the game as well.

Brookdale (3-10) was hot right from the start and built a 19-14 lead after the first quarter. However, the Colts opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to take a lead they would hold onto for just about the remainder of the game. Middlesex took a 42-32 lead into halftime after outscoring the Jersey Blues 28-13 in the second quarter.

Vanessa Rivas (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ) had 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals and Damani Anderson (Freshman/Elizabeth, NJ) led all bench scorers with eight points.
