MARZANO CAPTURES DISTRICT TITLE, MIDDLESEX ADVANCES SIX WRESTLERS TO NATIONALS

Middlesex College will send six wrestlers to the NJCAA National Tournament in Aames, Iowa after a fantastic team performance at the NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District Tournament.

The team was led by Mike Marzano (Freshman/Bloomfield, NJ) who upset top-seeded Thomas Kaliamouris from Camden CC in the finals 15-11 to capture the 149 pound championship as the sixth seed.

In addition to Marzano, John Braun (Freshman/Kenilworth, NJ), Luis Suriel (Freshman/Bloomfield, NJ), Danny Ramirez (Piscataway, NJ), Alex Pasquale (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) and Carlos Angel (Freshman/Bound Brook, NJ) also qualified for nationals, which will be held the last weekend in February.

After Marzano's first place finish, Braun was the highest place winner for Middlesex, finishing second in the 184 pound weight class. Angel (197) and Suriel (133) both finished fourth in their respective weight classes.
