GARCES-GOMEZ NOTCHES HAT TRICK AS MIDDLESEX TOPS BERGEN 7-0

Genesis Garces-Gomez tallied her second career hat trick and third multi-goal effort in the past four games as Middlesex College topped Bergen CC 7-0 in a Region 19 Women's Soccer showdown.

Isabelle Marin (Sophomore/South Plainfield, NJ) and Jasmin Alvarado (Sophomore/Plainfield, NJ) added two goals each as the Colts improved to 3-3 on the season.

Middlesex outshot Bergen 31-5 on the afternoon as Paula Antunes (Freshman/Metuchen, NJ) notched her second straight shutout win in goal for the Colts.

Although Middlesex won by a large total, the game was close until the Colts took command with five late goals coming after the 65 minute mark.

The game remained deadlocked at 0-0 for much of the first half until Garces-Gomez opened the scoring in the 29th minute to give Middlesex a 1-0 lead they would carry into the half.

Marin converted a pass from Alvarado in the 62nd minute to extend the Colts lead to 2-0 and Garces-Gomez gave the Colts breathing room five minutes later with her second goal of the game.

Middlesex put the game out of reach with four goals over a ten minute stretch to reach. Marin scored her second goal of the game in that stretch to give her nine goals on the season, which ranks her fifth overall in the nation among NJCAA Division III colleges.

The Colts return to the pitch on Friday when they take on Union College at home. Kickoff at Crabiel Field is scheduled for 6:45PM.
