MIDDLESEX COLLEGE MENS SOCCER CLINCHES PLAYOFF SPOT WITH PAIR OF SHUTOUT WINS

The Middlesex College Men's Soccer team enjoyed a successful 24 hours as their 2024 regular season winds down.

On Friday night, the Colts played their last home game of the regular season and came our victorious, topping RCSJ-Cumberland 4-0. They had a quick turnaround and took on Union Saturday afternoon, shutting out the Owls 2-0.

The two victories clinched a spot in the Region 19 playoffs for Middlesex. They are currently 7-3-3 with one regular season game remaining and will learn their playoff opponent this week.

Middlesex jumped out to a 1-0 lead against RCSJ-Cumberland when the Dukes scored an own goal on a crossing pass into the box 14 minutes into the game. David Galvez (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) converted a pass from Iassac Curi (Sophomore/Carteret,NJ) just three minutes later to extend the Middlesex lead to 2-0.

The Colts got some breathing room in the 55th minute when Ahmed Oshash (Sophomore/Dunellen, NJ) scored his seventh goal of the season. Andres Rojas (Freshman/Elizabeth, NJ) gave Middlesex their decisive margin when he scored on a penalty kick in the 68th minute.

Joseph Tucker (Freshman/Franklin, NJ) notched the shutout in goal for Middlesex, stopping all four shots he faced.

Middlesex traveled to Union the next day and continued to play solid defense shutting out the Owls 2-0 on the road.

Galvez gave Middlesex a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute and the score stayed that way for a majority of the contest. Rojas finally gave the Colts some breathing room with a goal in the 75th minute.

Tucker once again registered the shutout in goal, stopping all four shots he faced.

The Colts have one game remaining in the regular season, a road contest at Montgomery CC on Monday. Kickoff is set for 3:30PM.
